Statoil is monitoring the Troll gas field with newly developed technology

ROV recovery during Troll 2017 gravity and subsidence campaign.

Quad Geometrics have in cooperation with DOF this summer carried through gravimetric and seafloor subsidence monitoring of the giant North Sea Troll gas field, with Statoil as client. By use of newly developed measuring equipment, and at the same time an efficient way of data acquisition, more precise results have been obtained than ever in such campaigns through the 20 years of production history at the field. This information will be used in the further development of the gas reserves of the Troll field – gas which is being transported to Europe, where it can reduce the need for coal in electricity production and thus reduce total CO2 emissions. Quad Geometrics is a leading company within high-precision measurements of the change in gravity and surface deformation, for surveillance of the subsurface. The company has offices in San Diego, California and Trondheim, Norway.
